How do I make a standard payment?

A:

All payments raised under the standard payment option will be sent as a faster payment.

Here are the steps to raise the payment:

  1. Select 'Payments', then 'Make a Payment'
  2. Select 'Standard' under 'Domestic payments'
  3. Enter the name of the beneficiary, their sort code, account number and select whether the account you’re paying is a personal or business account
  4. Select ‘Check beneficiary details’ to run a beneficiary name check. This will give you a result on the payee name as to how close it matches. You can find out more about this name checking process here.
  5. Once you've completed the name check and are happy to proceed, select 'Use this beneficiary’
  6. Select the account you want to pay from (you can use the magnifying glass to help with this)
  7. Select the date you want the payment to arrive. Remember, selecting today's date will increase the cost
  8. Enter the amount of the payment
  9. Enter the references you want to appear on both your statement and the beneficiary's statement. You'll also see a field called 'beneficary alias' that you can amend. This beneficiary alias will appear on your statement and is the also the name that's sent with the payment to the beneficiary's bank.
  10. Once all the fields are completed, click 'Make payment'
  11. Check all the information is correct and click ‘Confirm’ once you're happy to go ahead

If you're able to authorise this payment yourself, you'll see a smartcard QR/challenge code, and you can go on to authorise it with your smartcard. If not, you'll be taken back to the 'Make a payment' screen. Remember to tell the appropriate payment authoriser that there's a payment ready for authorising.
