Q:

Why do payments or transfers made at around 18:00 take longer to process?

A:

Payment processing is paused between 18:15 and 18:35 to ensure that all transactions are completed before the bank calculates the end of day position for all accounts at 18:30.

For a Faster Payment or transfer between your accounts to be processed and recorded on your statement on the same working day, it needs to be fully authorised before 18:15 to be included in the end of day processing.

Payments or transfers made after this time will still continue to update on your balances as soon as they’re processed, but will show on your statement with a posting date of the next working day.
